En los últimos años, la competencia hegemónica y la crisis del sistema internacional han permitido observar y reconocer la importancia de las potencias regionales. En este contexto, Sudáfrica se ha posicionado como uno de los países más influyentes del continente africano y ha tenido un papel activo en los procesos internacionales desde el fin del apartheid, muestra de esto es su participación en los BRICS+ y su denuncia contra Israel por el genocidio en Gaza ante la Corte Internacional de Justicia (CIJ). Así, a pesar de los retos internos del país, enmarcados en las lógicas del capitalismo global, su participación e influencia en las dinámicas regionales e internacionales ha sido sumamente relevante. Por esa razón, el objetivo de este texto es estudiar a Sudáfrica como una potencia regional a partir de su participación en los BRICS+ y su denuncia contra Israel por el genocidio en Gaza desde perspectivas críticas para el estudio de las relaciones internacionales.
In recent years, hegemonic competition and the crisis of the international system have made it possible to observe and recognize the importance of regional powers. In this context, South Africa has positioned itself as one of the most influential countries on the African continent and has played an active role in international processes since the end of apartheid. Evidence of this includes its participation in BRICS+ and its accusation against Israel for genocide in Gaza before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Thus, despite the country’s internal challenges, framed within the logics of global capitalism, its participation and influence in regional and international dynamics have been highly significant. For this reason, the objective of this text is to study South Africa as a regional power based on its participation in BRICS+ and its accusation against Israel for genocide in Gaza, from critical perspectives in the study of international relations.
