El Tribunal de Justicia de la Unión Europea, en su Sentencia de 29 de abril de 2025, se ha pronunciado sobre la controvertida concesión de la nacionalidad maltesa como contraprestación a determinadas inversiones en dicho Estado miembro, poniendo de relieve aspectos muy interesantes sobre el Derecho de la Unión, los límites a la soberanía nacional cuando hay implicaciones sobre los intereses de la Unión Europea y en especial, los límites al ejercicio de la soberanía de cada Estado miembro en materia de nacionalidad, cuando se ve afectada la ciudadanía europea.
The Court of Justice of the European Union, in its judgment of 29 April 2025, ruled on the controversial granting of Maltese nationality as consideration for certain investments in that Member State, highlighting very interesting aspects of European law, the limits to national sovereignty when there are impli-cations for the interests of the European Union and, in particular, the limits to the exercise of sovereignty by each Member State in matters of nationality, when European citizenship is affected.
