En este artículo proponemos una reflexión sobre el legado de la ciencia medie-val y su influencia en la ciencia moderna inicial. Comenzaremos con un bosquejo genérico de la Edad Media. Defenderemos una visión más rica, compleja y vital de ese periodo. En función de este análisis es posible detectar ciertos logros o contribuciones medievales en la ciencia moderna inicial y en la tradición científica occidental. Sobre esta base, argumentaremos que la ciencia de los siglos XVI y XVII asimiló una gran cantidad de logros científicos medievales y que, para entender la tradición científica occidental satisfactoriamente, hay que volver a la Edad Media.
In this article, I present a reflection on the legacy of medieval science and its influence on early modern science. I will begin with a general overview of the Middle Ages, advocating for a richer, more complex, and dynamic perspective on this period. Based on this analysis, it is possible to identify certain medi-eval achievements or contributions to early modern science and the Western scientific tradition. On this basis, I will argue that the science of the 16th and 17th centuries assimilated a great number of medieval scientific achievements and that, to fully understand the Western scientific tradition, it is necessary to abroad to the Middle Ages.
