Entre 1861 y 1865, Santo Domingo fue anexionada por la corona española. La bibliografía sobre este episodio se ha centrado en la guerra de Restauración. En este artículo, describiré los discursos intelectuales con que en Santo Domingo se justificó la Anexión después de que esta se produjera. Todas las justificaciones se vinculan a tres núcleos discursivos: en primer lugar, la Anexión traerá la paz a Santo Domingo; en segundo lugar, la Anexión debe hacerla España porque es la madre de Santo Domingo; por último, la Anexión debe realizarla España, porque comparte con Santo Domingo la cultura, la religión y la lengua.
Between 1861 and 1865, Santo Domingo was annexionated by the Spanish crown. The bibliography on this historical chapter has focused on the War of Restauration that puts an end to Annexation. In this article, I will describe the intellectual discourses that justified Annexation, after it took place. Every justification is connected with three discursive cores. In the first place, Annexation should bring peace to Santo Domingo. In the second place, Annexation should be executed by Spain because it is its Santo Domingo's mother country. Last, Annexation should be done by Spain, because they share the same culture, religion and language.
