This paper discusses the importance of valuejudgment controversies (Werturteilstreit) in thewritings of Gustav Schmoller and Max Weberin the context of the later years of the GermanHistorical School of Economics. The perspectiveof Schmoller is presented in relation to Weber,who was once considered part of a later generation of the German Historical School. This paper sheds light upon aspects of the then-existing dispute over the scientific status of historical knowledge in the context of the emergence of the social sciences as separate disciplines. This allows a better understanding of the changes in political economy during the first quarter of the 20th century and how this might have played a role in the decline of the German Historical School from the main economic discourse.
Este artigo discute a importância das controvérsiassobre julgamentos de valor (Werturteilstreit) nosescritos de Gustav Schmoller e Max Weber, nocontexto dos anos tardios da Escola Histórica Alemã de Economia. A perspectiva de Schmoller é apresentada em relação a Weber, que foi considerado autor tardio da Escola Histórica. Nesse contexto, o artigo ilumina aspectos das controvérsias de até então do status científico do conhecimento histórico da emergência das ciências sociais como disciplinas separadas, permitindo um entendimento melhor das mudanças na economia política durante o início do século XX e como isso pode ter tido um papel no declínio da Escola Histórica dos principais discurso econômicos.
