The exponential growth of linguistic landscape research in recent years necessitates a systematic bibliometric review. Based on a dataset of 374 documents retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, this study first divides the development of linguistic landscape studies into three stages using a data-driven approach. Major research themes, along with their diachronic changes in popularity and trend, are tracked by means of noun phrase extraction technique and statistical analyses. It is found that research priorities have shifted across the three stages. Co-citation analyses on frequently cited publications, authors and journals in the 374 documents are conducted to identify seminal works and key contributors. The results of co-citation analyses converge in pointing to the interdisciplinary nature of linguistic landscape research.
