Los sentimientos de ambivalencia pueden estar presentes, al igual que otros, en el proceso migratorio y en las respectivas fases de cambio y adaptación que experimentan las personas migrantes en el país de acogida. Dadas las circunstancias, el presente estudio se propone investigar dicha ambivalencia presente en el discurso de personas migrantes residentes en un asentamiento chabolista en Níjar/España cuando reflexionaron sobre las fotografías que tomaron para responder a la pregunta de cómo comprenden que el hecho de vivir en un asentamiento podría afectar su salud y bienestar. Se adoptó un diseño cualitativo que se enmarca dentro de una perspectiva metodológica basada en la etnografía y en la utilización de la técnica participativa del Fotovoz. El proceso de reflexión sobre el corpus de datos resultó en la creación de dos categorías de análisis denominadas: Sombra entre luces y Luz entre sombras. Según lo observado, la ambivalencia se manifestó de diversas maneras, impulsada por distintos elementos simbólicos que generaron emociones tanto negativas como positivas, capaces de afectar el bienestar emocional y psicológico del sujeto, de manera tanto perjudicial como beneficiosa. Ante la precaria realidad de los asentamientos, se aboga por políticas públicas y sanitarias más inclusivas, así como por oportunidades más equitativas que consideren las necesidades reales de estas personas que viven en un contexto de alta vulnerabilidad.
Feelings of ambivalence, among others, can be present throughout the migration process and during the various phases of change and adaptation experienced by immigrants in the host country. Given these circumstances, this study aims to investigate the ambivalence present in the discourse of immigrants residing in a settlement in Níjar, Spain, as they reflected on the photographs they took in response to the question of how living in such a settlement might affect their health and well-being. A qualitative research design was adopted, framed within a methodological approach based on ethnography and utilizing the participatory technique of Photovoice. The reflective analysis of data corpus resulted in the creation of two analytical categories: Shadow among Lights and Light among Shadows. As observed, ambivalence manifested in diverse ways, driven by various symbolic elements that elicited both negative and positive emotions, thereby influencing the emotional and psychological well-being of the participants in both detrimental and beneficial manners. Given the precarious conditions of those settlements, it is advocated that more inclusive public and health policies be implemented, alongside the creation of more equitable opportunities that address the real needs of these people living in this highly vulnerable context.
