The objective of this article is to present, from a comprehensive theoretical perspective, the scenario of cities from the perspective of cultural heritage, in a way that is inclusive of the dynamic social mosaic. This respects the history of the formation of urban centers and the inclusion of actors who establish relationships of affinity and identification. The study covers not only the political bases, but also the protection and appreciation of cultural heritage, including its contemporary notion. Sustainable development, linked to places of memory, aims to ensure the improvement of the quality of human life, without disadvantaging spaces and individuals who reside in peripheral areas or who participate in forms of occupation not recognized by current society. This article follows a descriptive and analytical methodology, based on a bibliographic survey and the Capes Theses Bank.
O presente artigo tem por objetivo a apresentação, sob uma perspectiva teórica abrangente, o cenário das cidades pela ótica do patrimônio cultural, de maneira inclusiva ao dinâmico mosaico social. Respeita-se, assim, a história da formação dos núcleos urbanos e a inclusão dos atores que estabelecem relações de afinidade e identificação. O estudo abarca não apenas as bases políticas, mas também a proteção e valorização do patrimônio cultural, inclusive quanto à sua noção contemporânea. O desenvolvimento sustentável, vinculado a lugares de memória, visa assegurar a melhoria da qualidade de vida humana, sem desfavorecer os espaços e indivíduos que residem em áreas periféricas ou que participaram de formas de ocupação não reconhecidas pela sociedade atual. Este artigo segue uma metodologia descritiva e analítica, fundamentada em levantamento bibliográfico e no Banco de Teses da Capes.
