En este artículo vamos a tratar de profundizar en la persona de Pablo de Olavide (1725- 1803). Una figura que pasó a representar la imagen oficial del gobierno reformista del Conde de Aranda y el monarca Carlos III, por lo que ha sido objeto de una fuerte instrumentalización, tanto de parte de sus defensores como de sus contrarios. Cuando consultamos la historiografía y las distintas reseñas, o incluso al examinar sus propios escritos y obras, nos queda la impresión de no llegar a tener un semblante claro sobre cómo era Pablo de Olavide en su intimidad y en su día a día. Los retratos y grabados suyos que se conocen quizás nos ayuden a desvelar su yo más íntimo.
In this article, we are going to learn more about Pablo de Olavide (1725–1803). He was a figure who came to represent the governmental image of the reformist government of the Count of Aranda and King Charles III, and as such, he has been heavily exploited by both his defenders and his opponents. When we consult the historiography and reviews, or even examine his own writings and works, we are left with the impression that we do not have a clear picture of what Pablo de Olavide was like in his private life and in his daily routine. The portraits and engravings of Olavide that are known to us may perhaps help us to reveal his most intimate self.
