    En el presente trabajo abordamos las relaciones entre la ciudad de Cádiz y el marquesado de Ayamonte en la transición a la Modernidad. Por una parte, se analizan los orígenes y la formación de la casa de Ayamonte, así como la situación económica y social de Andalucía a finales de la Edad Media. Por otra parte, se presenta un caso de estudio, el pleito de 1529, que permite profundizar en los contactos marítimos entre Cádiz y Ayamonte. El detonante del litigio fue el secuestro por las autoridades gaditanas de un relevante cargamento de trigo con destino a Ayamonte. La disputa entre las autoridades de Cádiz y el marqués de Ayamonte fue ocasionada por motivaciones fiscales, pero también por la necesidad de cereal en Cádiz. Este registro sirve para estudiar el desarrollo de un conflicto marítimo y su resolución.

    In this paper, we address the relationships between the city of Cádiz and the marquisate of Ayamonte in the transition to Modernity. On the one hand, we analyze the origins and formation of the House of Ayamonte, as well as the economic and social context of Andalusia at the end of the Middle Ages. On the other hand, this research is based on a case study that allows us to delve into maritime contacts between Cádiz and Ayamonte. The cause of the litigation was the seizure of a shipment of grain by the authorities of Cádiz bound for Ayamonte. The dispute between the authorities of Cádiz and the Marquis of Ayamonte was driven by fiscal motives, but also by the need for grain in Cádiz. This document is used to study the course of the maritime conflict and its resolution.
