La diplomacia pública es un aspecto central de la política exterior estadounidense hacia América Latina y es fundamental para comprender cómo la principal potencia hemisférica logra construir, mantener y acrecentar su poder blando en la región. Este artículo se propone examinar la diplomacia pública estadounidense hacia América Latina centrando su atención en uno de sus principales pilares: los American Spaces. Para ello, las preguntas sobre cómo la diplomacia pública contribuye a generar poder blando, cómo ha sido implementada por Washington y de qué manera operan los American Spaces en la región guían este análisis.
Public diplomacy plays a key role in United States foreign policy towards Latin America, constituting a fundamental element for comprehending how this nation manages to construct, sustain and increase its soft power within this region. This article aims to contribute to the analysis of this phenomenon by centering its attention on one of its primary components: the American Spaces. To this end, this research is guided by a set of inquiries, such as how public diplomacy contributes to generate power, how it has been implemented by the United States government and how American Spaces operate within the region.
