The article is the text of the opening lecture of the Conference “Biblioteche oltre” (Milan, 12-13 march, 2025), entirely focused on librarianship and interdisciplinarity. The author, Roberto Casati, Italian philosopher based in Paris (Institut Jean Nicod, CNRS, École normale Supérieure), argues that interdisciplinarity has always been an important source of the progress of scientific knowledge in several fields. Some examples from the history of science (the relations and exchanges between chemistry and astronomy, and between biology and geology) are presented and discussed, in order to show how the disciplines lend each other concepts and ideas, and in such a way they don’t dissolve but become stronger.
L'articolo è il testo della lezione di apertura del Convegno “Biblioteche oltre” (Milano, 12-13 marzo 2025), interamente incentrato su biblioteconomia e interdisciplinarità. L'autore, Roberto Casati, filosofo italiano residente a Parigi (Institut Jean Nicod, CNRS, École normale Supérieure), sostiene che l'interdisciplinarità è sempre stata una fonte importante per il progresso della conoscenza scientifica in diversi campi. Vengono presentati e discussi alcuni esempi tratti dalla storia della scienza (le relazioni e gli scambi tra la chimica e l'astronomia, e tra la biologia e la geologia), per mostrare come le discipline si prestino reciprocamente concetti e idee, e in tal modo non si dissolvano ma si rafforzino.
