Este trabajo se configura como un estudio de caso, centrado en el análisis de iniciativas tendentes a mejorar la eficiencia energética de centros residenciales de mayores, favoreciendo que estos equipamientos adopten, progresivamente, modelos de gestión sostenible que incidan positivamente no sólo en el ahorro de energía y en el consiguiente beneficio para el medio ambiente, sino también en el aumento del bienestar de las personas usuarias de las residencias. El concepto de sostenibilidad que subyace en este trabajo implica, por un lado, que se debe atender y dar la importancia que requiere el cuidado del medio ambiente en el que nos desenvolvemos, lo que producirá, por otro lado, un efecto beneficioso para el conjunto de la sociedad. La población mayor es un sector muy sensible al deterioro medioambiental y, por ello, los entornos de vida de los mayores deben planificarse y gestionarse desde la sostenibilidad. Ello redundará en un mayor bienestar y calidad de vida. Y, en este objetivo, el trabajo social está llamado a desempeñar un papel relevante.
This work is configured as a case study, focused on the analysis of initiatives aimed at improving the energy efficiency of residential centers for the elderly, encouraging these facilities to progressively adopt sustainable management models that have a positive impact not only on energy savings and in the consequent benefit for the environment, but also in increasing the well-being of the users of the residences. The concept of sustainability that underlies this work implies, on the one hand, that the care of the environment in which we operate must be attended to and given the importance required, which will produce, on the other hand, a beneficial effect for the whole of the society. The elderly population is a sector that is very sensitive to environmental deterioration and, therefore, the living environments of the elderly must be planned and managed from a sustainability perspective. This will result in greater well-being and quality of life. And, in this objective, social work is called to play a relevant role.
