Aunque la dignidad humana es una noción suficientemente estudiada, todavía sigue siendo acuciante en el contexto contemporáneo de las constantes violaciones cometidas en variadas formas de miseria social. La reciente declaración de la Congregación para la Doctrina de la Fe, El don de la dignidad, encabezada por el Cardenal Víctor Manuel Fernández, trata este asunto de un modo profético,subrayando la perspectiva del carácter ontológico de ladignidad y su constancia inalienable, independientemente de la circunstancia. El documento ofrece una reflexión sobre la base filosófica y la interrelación de la dignidad y los derechos humanos, y además nombra las trece violaciones contemporáneas acuciantes de la dignidad, invitando a un reconocimiento esencial de la persona más allá de la circunstancia. Although human dignity is a sufficiently studied notion, it still remains pressing in the contemporary context of the constant violations committed in various forms of social misery. The recent statement of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, The Gift of Dignity, headed by Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez, addresses this issue in a prophetic way, underlining the perspective of the ontological character of dignity and its inalienable constancy, regardless of circumstance. The document offers a reflection on the philosophical basis and interrelationship of dignity and human rights, and also names the thirteen pressing contemporary violations of dignity, calling for an essential recognition of the person beyond circumstance. With this argument, the declaration places dignity as a gift of human existence, not circumstance, and insists on its immutable permanence despite life circumstances.
