La invasión a territorio ucraniano disparó las alarmas con respecto a la apreciación de Rusiapor parte de la Unión Europea. El otrora considerado socio confiable para el suministro deenergía, principalmente gas, hoy es reconocido como fuente de preocupación y peligro parael bloque, debido a la capacidad de su complejo energético para influir y condicionar laseguridad de Bruselas. Ante tal escenario, se vuelve pertinente la búsqueda de alternativasque permitan a la Unión Europea diversificar sus bases de aprovisionamiento y así menguarsu asimetría con Moscú, y frente a este panorama España se erige como una opcióndestacable para lograr tal cometido.El objetivo de este trabajo es describir las condiciones propias que tiene España paracontribuir a disminuir la dependencia gasística de la Unión Europea con respecto a Rusia.Para tal fin, se desarrolla un recorrido histórico del sector gasista español para, luego,explicar las condiciones propias que hacen a España un país con el potencial de convertirseen un hub gasístico destacable para el bloque. Finalmente se abordan los condicionantes queimpiden a España poder explotar de manera óptima todo su potencial.
The invasion of Ukrainian territory has triggered alarms regarding the European Union'sappreciation of Russia. What was once considered a reliable partner for the supply of energy,mainly gas, is today recognized as a source of concern and danger for the community block,due to the capacity of its energy complex to influence and condition the security of Brussels.Faced with such a scenario, it becomes pertinent to search for alternatives that allow theEuropean Union to diversify its supply bases and thus reduce its asymmetric situation withMoscow; and, in the face of this panorama, Spain stands as a notable option to achieve thisgoal.The objective of this work is to describe the conditions that Spain has to contribute toreducing the gas energy dependence of the European Union with respect to Russia. To thisend, a historical overview of the Spanish gas sector is developed to subsequently explain theconditions that make Spain a country with the potential to become a notable gas hub for thebloc. Finally, the conditions that prevent Spain from being able to optimally exploit all itspotential are addressed.
