La digitalización de la economía está transformando las necesidades territoriales contemporáneas. Entre las nuevas infraestructuras clave emergen los centros de datos, cuya implantación requiere condiciones específicas de energía, conectividad, logística y tramitación urbanística eficiente. En Aragón, los Planes de Interés General de Aragón (PIGA) se están utilizando como instrumento clave para facilitar la instalación de estas infraestructuras, lo que plantea importantes retos y oportunidades desde la perspectiva del desarrollo urbano y la gobernanza territorial.
Data centers have become critical infrastructures for the digital economy, requiring specific spatial and environmental conditions, including energy access, connectivity, and streamlined urban planning. In the Spanish region of Aragón, the «Planes de Interés General de Aragón» (PIGA)—territorial instruments regulated by regional law—are being used to facilitate the deployment of hyperscale data centers by companies such as Amazon Web Services and Tillion. This article explores the legal framework, technical characteristics, and spatial implications of PIGA as tools for digital urban development. It also addresses governance, environmental sustainability, and the territorial cohesion challenges that arise from their use.
