La caída de la monarquía de Alfonso XIII, en la que fue determinante la falta de implicación de los hombres de la vieja política española, destapó la profunda fragmentación que llevaban arrastrando durante años las fuerzas de derecha y puso en riesgo la privilegiada posición de la Iglesia en España. Con la llegada de la república, los católicos castellanoleoneses, siguiendo las instrucciones de la Santa Sede, adoptaron en su mayoría una actitud posibilista con el nuevo régimen y apostaron por iniciar un proceso de adaptación a la nueva realidad política del país con el objetivo de asegurar una representación parlamentaria derechista lo suficientemente numerosa como para garantizar que se respetarían los intereses de la Iglesia y la religión. De manera que, en los dos meses que transcurrieron entre la proclamación de la Segunda República y las elecciones a Cortes constituyentes, se sirvieron de la prensa tanto para guiar a la población seglar en unos momentos de tanta incertidumbre, como para iniciar una rápida y efectiva movilización política.
The fall of the monarchy of Alfonso XIII, in which the lack of involvement of the men of the old Spanish politics was decisive, uncovered the deep fragmentation that the right-wing forces had been dragging along for years and put the privileged position of the Church in Spain at risk. With the arrival of the republic, the Castilian-Leonese Catholics, following the instructions of the Holy See, adopted a mostly possibilist attitude towards the new regime and opted to begin a process of adaptation to the new political reality of the country with the aim of ensuring a right-wing parliamentary representation large enough to guarantee that the interests of the Church and religion would be respected. Thus, in the two months that elapsed between the proclamation of the Second Republic and the elections to the constituent Cortes, they made use of the press both to guide the secular population in a time of such uncertainty, and to initiate a rapid and effective political mobilization.
