San Agustín de Hipona (Aurelio Agustino), fue Obispo de Hippo Regius en Numidia durante los últimos años del Imperio Romano. Nace en Tagaste (actual Argelia) el año 354, cerca de Cartago. Asistió a la escuela en Madaura y Cartago, donde estudió gramática y retórica. Entre los diversos aportes de la obra de Agustín, se encuentran sus ideas sobre el sufrimiento humano. En este artículo, pretendemos repasar y comprender las nociones de dolor, pesar y sufrimiento, y como el Padre de la Iglesia propone las soluciones (o tratamientos) para esta realidad.
Saint Augustine of Hippo (Aurelius Augustine) was the Bishop of Hippo Regius in Numidia during the final years of the Roman Empire. He was born in Tagaste (present-day Algeria) in the year 354, near Carthage. He attended school in Madaura and Carthage, where he studied grammar and rhetoric. Among the various contributions of Augustine’s works are his ideas about human suffering. In this article, we aim to review and understand the notions of pain, grief, and suffering, and how the Church Father proposes solutions (or treatments) for this reality.
