  • This text discusses a collection of essays by Adriano Prosperi published between 1981 and 2019. The title Fears and Devotions intends to offer a general interpretation of them, namely that the devotions practised in Italy by the Christian people are aimed at protection from dangers of various kinds. The text also offers a picture of the important transformations in Italian religious life during the 16th century.
