    Esta contribución analizará la sentencia dictada por la Corte Internacional de Justicia en 2022 donde se establecieron las indemnizaciones que Uganda debía pagar a la República del Congo como resultado de las actividades militares realizadas en el territorio de este último. Se abordará en profundidad el daño causado a personas y propiedades, así como la responsabilidad por los daños medioambientales y macroeconómicos. Se dará cuenta del criterio de suma global adoptado, el estándar exigido para cada tipo de daño, las dificultades que tuvo por este tribunal internacional para otorgar tales indemnizaciones debido a la falta de prueba y el rol de los peritos expertos nombrados por éste.

    This paper will analyze the judgment issued by the International Court of Justice in 2022, which established the compensation to be paid by Uganda to the Republic of Congo due to the military activities carried out in the latter’s territory. Damage caused to human beings and property, as well as liability for environmental and macroeconomic damage will be addressed in detail. The global sum criterion adopted by the Court, the standard required for each type of damage, the difficulties encountered by the Court in awarding such compensations due to the lack of evidence and the role of the expert witnesses appointed by the Court will be discussed.
