Fernando VII volvió a decorar los palacios reales con suntuosidad. Su arte cortesano, sin embargo, no ha sido tan estudiado como merece, y sus conjuntos han sufrido graves pérdidas. Por ello resulta muy importante el estudio de una secuencia de salas hasta ahora inéditas en el Palacio Real de Madrid.
Remodeladas para el infante don Sebastián Gabriel de Borbón y Braganza justo antes de su boda en 1832, su decoración pictórica en techos y paramentos se conserva en su integridad y las cuentas e inventarios permiten reconstruir el ostentoso esplendor de la Restauración.
Ferdinand the VII had the royal palaces sumptuously refurbished. However, his court art has not received the attention it deserves, partly because most of the decorative ensembles were altered or destroyed later. In that context becomes most relevant a sequence of rooms in the Royal Palace of Madrid, as they had never been studied at all. These were redecorated for the king’s nephew, Prince Sebastián Gabriel de Borbón y Braganza, just before his wedding in 1832;
the mural paintings on ceilings and embrasures remain in good condition, and the accounts and inventories make possible to get back to our mind the lavish magnifi cence of Bourbon Restoration.
