Objetivo. Este artículo propone analizar las elecciones fundacionales del Frente Nacional en Colombia en 1958, los actores,las reglas y los resultados. Metodología. Se analiza el contexto histórico, la estructura y el tipo de partidos políticos ysus dinámicas fraccionales con base en diversas fuentes documentales. También se describe el arreglo institucional delrégimen de coalición. Las estadísticas se procesan y analizan para determinar su evolución, los niveles de implantacióny de abstención y las estrategias de movilización electoral. Las fuentes son primarias (estadísticas históricas, periódicos,discursos y documentos institucionales) y secundarias. Resultados. Se evidencia la naturaleza elitista de los dospartidos y sus divisiones internas, así como también del régimen que diseñaron sus principales dirigentes nacionales. Losresultados permiten caracterizar a las elecciones como semi competitivas, limitadas, excluyentes y de legitimación. Fueronelegidas por primera vez mujeres al Congreso, el Partido Liberal mantiene sus mayorías electorales y hay un círculo decongresistas procedentes de las élites o amparados por estas.
Objective. The article aims to analyze the founding elections of the National Front in Colombia in 1958, the actors, the rules and the results. Methodology. Based on various documentary sources, the historical context, the structure and the type of political parties and their factional dynamics are analyzed. The institutional arrangement of the coalition regime is also described. The statistics are processed and analyzed to determine its evolution, the levels of implementation and abstention and the electoral mobilization strategies. The sources are primary (historical statistics, newspapers, speeches and institutional documents) and secondary. Results. The elitist nature of the two parties and their internal divisions and of the regime designed by their main national leaders are evident. The results allow us to characterize the elections as semi-competitive, limited, exclusive and legitimizing. Women were elected to Congress for the first time, the Liberal Party maintained its electoral majorities and there is a circle of congressmen coming from the elites or protected by them.
