A partir de su larga experiencia como bioeticista y su rol como asesor en las deliberaciones sobre la ley de eutanasia en España, el autor distingue aspectos fundamentales para evitar confundir la eutanasia con otras intervenciones que no caben bajo el concepto. Expone las características de la ayuda al morir y del tipo de solicitud que inicia esa acción. A continuación aborda el eje fundamental de esta reflexión, que es el cuidado de la vida en el momento del morir y las diversas posibilidades que se abren para la ayuda al morir en esta circunstancia: moderación terapéutica, cuidado paliativo, asistencia médica y legal. Finalmente se ofrece una reflexión sobre ética laica y fe religiosa en el contexto contemporáneo.
Based on his long experience as a bioethicist and his role as a consultant during the deliberations on the Euthanasia Law in Spain, the author distinguishes fundamental aspects of euthanasia, with the aim of avoiding its confusion with other interventions that do not belong to this term. He exposes the characteristics of euthanasia and the type of petition that initiates this action. He then approaches the main issue of this essay, that is: the issue of caring for life during the dying period and the different options of assisted dying that open up in these circumstances: therapeutic moderation, palliative care, medical and legal assistance. Finally, the author offers a reflection on secular ethics and religious faith in our context.
Ausgehend von seiner langer Erfahrung als Bioethiker und seiner Rolle als Berater während der Diskussionen über das Euthanasiegesetz in Spanien unterscheidet der Autor grundsätzliche Aspekte der Euthanasie, mit dem Ziel ihre Verwechslung mit anderen Eingriffen, die nicht unter diesen Begriff fallen, zu vermeiden. Er legt die Merkmale der Sterbehilfe und die Art von Petition dar, die diese Maßnahme auslöst. Danach führt er das Hauptthema dieses Essays ein, nämlich die Frage der Fürsorge für das Leben während der Zeit des Sterben und der unterschiedlichen Möglichkeiten der Sterbehilfe, die sich unter diesen Umständen eröffnen: therapeutische Moderation, Palliativpflege, medizinische und rechtliche Hilfe. Abschliessend bietet der Author eine Reflexion über säkulare Ethik und religiösen Glaube im Kontext der Gegenwart an.
