En este trabajo, que se integra en un homenaje a Alfonso Ruiz Miguel y que, con arreglo a ello, discute algunas de sus ideas acerca del nacionalismo, se define la doctrina nacionalista con dos tesis: la tesis cultural y la tesis política. Se argumenta que, a menudo tanto los nacionalistas como los anti-nacionalistas, aceptan que la tesis cultural implica la tesis política. Los nacionalistas al aceptar dicha implicación y abrazar la tesis cultural, se comprometen también con la tesis política. Los anti-nacionalistas, por el contrario, al rechazar la tesis política, rechazan también la tesis cultural. En este trabajo se arguye que dicha implicación no está justificada y que, por lo tanto, se puede aceptar la tesis cultural sin abrazar la tesis política. Esta idea se aplica, en concreto, a las políticas lingüísticas en comunidades con diversas lenguas.
In this work, which is part of a tribute to Alfonso Ruiz Miguel and which, in accordance with this, discusses some of his ideas about nationalism. The nationalist doctrine is defined with two theses: the cultural thesis and the political thesis. It is argued that both nationalists and anti-nationalists often accept that the cultural thesis implies the political thesis. Nationalists, by accepting such an implication and embracing the cultural thesis, also commit themselves to the political thesis. Anti-nationalists, on the other hand, by rejecting the political thesis, also reject the cultural thesis. This paper argues that such an implication is not justified and that one can therefore accept the cultural thesis without embracing the political thesis. This idea is applied, in particular, to language policies in communities with diverse languages.
