Este artículo pretende evidenciar las conexiones entre la ética animalista y la protección de los derechos humanos en relación con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS). Los argumentos se desarrollan en torno a tres ejes: (1) Vidas, cambio climático y sostenibilidad, (2) Alimentación, salud y bienestar y (3) Justicia, paz y convivencia. Este trabajo sugiere que para proteger algunos derechos humanos es necesario abandonar cualquier manifestación de la lógica de la dominación, especialmente la referida al resto de animales. Además, la evidencia científica muestra que la explotación animal tiene consecuencias negativas no solo para el resto de animales, sino también para los humanos, ya que conlleva peores indicadores medioambientales y de salud. Al contrario de lo que generalmente se piensa, la ética animalista puede ser compatible con el discurso de los derechos humanos.
This article aims to highlight the connections between animal ethics and the protection of human rights around the Sustainable Development Goals. The arguments are based on three points: (1) Lives, climate change, and sustainability; (2) Food, health, and well-being; and (3) Justice, peace, and coexistence. This paper suggests that protecting some human rights requires abandoning any manifestation of the logic of domination, especially when it comes to other animals. Furthermore, scientific evidence shows that animal exploitation has negative consequences not only for other animals but also for humans, leading to poorer environmental and health outcomes. Contrary to popular belief, animal ethics may be compatible with human rights discourse.
