El presente artículo producto de investigación tiene por objetivo revisar una metodología de cálculo de la demanda de agua, y aplicarla para tener una aproximación técnicamente consistente, del volumen de agua demandada por la ciudad de Cartagena de Indias en el año 2009, teniendo en cuenta su estructura socioeconómica y las tendencias de las variables implicadas en dicho cálculo. Los resultados muestran que Cartagena requiere de un total de 164.962.448 metros cúbicos de agua al año 2009, distribuidos en un 57,9% para las familias, 22,2% para el sector servicio, seguido del sector agrícola con un 16,6% y del sector industrial con un 2,8%. Como era de esperarse los sectores pecuarios y riego fueron los menores en requerir agua con un 0,3% y 0,1 %, respectivamente.Palabras Clave: Demanda de Agua. Recurso Hídrico. Precipitación. This document is the written inform of the investigation whose objective was to check the calculate methodology of water demands, and apply them to have a consistent technical approximately, of the volume of water demanded by the city of Cartagena de Indias in 2009, according to socio-economic structure and the tendencies of the variables involved in that calculate. The result shows that Cartagena requires a total of 164.962.448 cubic meter of water at year 2009, distribute in a 57.9% for families, 22.2% for service sector, follow by farm sector with a 16.6% and the industrial sector with a 2.8%. As it was to expected the livestock and irrigation sectors were the lowest in required water with a 0.3% and 0.1%, respectively.Key Words: Water Demand. Water Resources. Precipitation.
