Se examina el deterioro de la autonomía universitaria y la libertad académica en los contextos autoritarios de Venezuela y Nicaragua durante el período 2000-2023. Utilizando los Principios interamericanos de libertad académica (PILA) como marco de referencia, se analiza cómo la creciente influencia gubernamental y las prácticas autoritarias han impactado en la capacidad de las instituciones educativas para mantener su independencia y fomentar un ambiente de investigación y enseñanza libres. A través de un análisis comparativo entre ambos casos, se busca comprender las similitudes y diferencias en los mecanismos utilizados por los regímenes autoritarios para minar la autonomía universitaria y restringir la libertad académica. Además, se exploran las implicaciones a largo plazo de estas tendencias autoritarias en el panorama educativo y social de la región.
This article examines the deterioration of university autonomy and academic freedom in the authoritarian contexts of Venezuela and Nicaragua during the period 2000-2023. Using the Inter-American Principles of Academic Freedom (PILA) as a framework, it analyses how increasing government influence and authoritarian practices have impacted on the ability of educational institutions to maintain their independence and foster a free research and teaching environment. Through a comparative analysis of the two cases, it seeks to understand the similarities and differences in the mechanisms used by authoritarian regimes to undermine university autonomy and restrict academic freedom. It also explores the long-term implications of these trends for the educational and social landscape in the region.
