Resumen de Politicisation of asylum and refugee and the signs ofpolitical contagion effect in European Parliament

• Studies on the patterns of voting in EP have been consensually assuming thatdespite the predominance of the great coalition occurrence, ideology has beena driver for voting preferences of EP party groups. Relying on the presumptionsthat a growing politicisation of migration, and the refugee in particular, hasbeen happening in Europe in the last decade, and that Europeanisationprocesses generate the uploading of policy preferences from the national tothe supranational levels in the EU polity, and relying on a comparativepolitics approach, this research aims to assess if there’s been a contagioneffect of the populist right in the mainstream EP political groups regardingmigration issues. Based on roll call votes empirical analysis, this advancessigns of the creation of a pro-security grand coalition comprising centre-left,centre-right and right in asylum issues.
