The critique of metaphysics as a science elaborated in the Critique of Pure Reason is not all that Kant has to say on the subject of the supposed science of the suprasensible. In addition to what refers to the practical access to that realm, in the framework of the theory of reflection presented in Critique of the power of judgment the idea of what can be called a “reflective metaphysics” is clearly outlined, which is not linked to knowledge in the narrower sense of the term, but rather to what Kant calls a “rational belief”. Such a rational belief makes it possible to articulate a certain understanding of the world as a whole. On that basis, a certain rehabilitation of metaphysica specialis takes place in the space of reflection.
