A partir de la relevancia que tiene hacer investigación para los docentes, el presente artículo indaga sobre las competencias de investigación que tienen los docentes del profesorado de Educación Básica de una universidad salvadoreña. Se llevó a cabo una investigación con enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo exploratorio transeccional, no experimental. Los resultados evidencian, por un lado, fortalezas en cuanto a la búsqueda, análisis e interpretación de información fidedigna; por otro, debilidades con respecto a la escritura académico-científica. Resulta necesario llevar a cabo estudios que permitan indagar sobre la carencia de productos de escritura científica.

Since the importance that performing investigation has in the educators of future teachers, the present study researched the investigation competencies developed by the professors from the Primary Education Teaching degree of a university of El Salvador. The authors carried out a quantitative study, in a transactional exploratory, non-experi- mental type. The results in the study show, on one hand, strengths in the development of the investigation process regarding the search, analysis, and interpretation of information. On the other hand, it also presents that professors have some weaknesses in the academic-scien- tific writing process. It seems necessary to carry out studies which permit to investigate about the lack of scientific writing products.
