La migración internacional de científicos ha sido documentada, en México, principalmente en sus conexiones con la fuga de cerebros. No obstante, aun en esa línea de investigación, se constata la existencia de ángulos muertos. Uno de esos concierne los perfiles de los mexicanos que realizan labores de investigación fuera de México. Considerando que el Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI) los incluye entre sus miembros, en este artículo, exponemos sus características, con base en el Padrón 2023. Aunque reducida, la información permite identificar algunos rasgos del colectivo de referencia, contribuir a la discusión sobre la circulación de la materia gris y avanzar algunas ideas sobre el papel del SNI como mecanismo de relacionamiento entre los científicos nacionales y la diáspora.
The international migration of scientists has been documented, in Mexico, mainly with respect to brain drain. However, even in this line of research, the existence of blind spots is confirmed. Considering that one of them concerns the profiles of Mexicans employed as researchers outside Mexico and that the National System of Researchers (SNI, by its Spanish acronym) includes them among its members, in this article, we expose their characteristics, based on the Annual Registry (2023). Although limited, the information allows us to identify some characteristics of the reference group, con-tribute to the discussion on the circulation of highly skilled scientists and advance some ideas on the role of the SNI as a mechanism of relationship between national scientists and the diaspora.
