Antes que una recensión del libro de Carlos J. Rangel, Mitos de nuestra humanidad (2024) el artículo propone revisar los mitos que frenan la cultura de la libertad en Venezuela. Rangel lo hace partiendo de la mitología clásica, para hacerles entender a sus lectores los porqués de la tragedia, supuestamente insoluble, que hace presa de los venezolanos. Aguiar evoca los mitos de Sísifo y El Dorado como al Cesarismo Democrático. Y junto a Rangel, mirando sobre el aguafuerte goyesco El sueño de la razón, ambos llegan al punto crucial de lo perdido: La Pepa, la Constitución de Cádiz de 1812.
Before a review of Carlos J. Rangel's book, Myths of Our Humanity (2024), the article proposes to review the myths that hold back the culture of freedom in Venezuela. Rangel does so based on classical mythology, to make his readers understand the reasons for the supposedly insoluble tragedy that has gripped Venezuelans. Aguiar evokes the myths of Sisyphus and El Dorado as well as Democratic Caesarism. And together with Rangel, looking at the Goyaesque etching The Dream of Reason, both reach the crucial point of what was lost: La Pepa, the Constitution of Cádiz of 1812.
