In 1708 several celebrations were held in Barcelona on the occasion of the wedding of King Charles III with Elisabeth of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, who travelled from Vienna to the Catalan capital to settle in the Austrian court. The palatine space had to be built to host the different artistic manifestations produced to celebrate the union of the royal marriage. Artists from all over Europe came together to serve the Baroque festival: musicians, stage designers, poets, operists, composers... One of the first Italian-style operas to be performed in Catalonia, L’Imeneo, was written precisely to be held around the wedding between the monarchs. The text of the libretto, despite being mentioned in various studies on culture and literature during the War of Spanish Succession, had never been the subject of a philological edition or a circumstantial analysis. In this work we will approach the context of original production and reception of the text, as well as the literary and propagandistic content of the text, before offering its edition.
L’any 1708 se celebraren a Barcelona diversos festejos per motiu de les noces del rei Carles III amb Elisabet de Brunsvic-Wolfenbüttel, qui va viatjar de Viena a la capital catalana per a establir-se a la cort austriacista. L’espai palatí va haver d’agençar-se per a acollir les diferents manifestacions artístiques produïdes per a festivar la unió del matrimoni reial. Artistes de tota Europa s’hi van aplegar per a posar-se al servei de la festa barroca: músics, escenògrafs, poetes, operistes, compositors… Una de les primeres òperes a l’estil italià que es va representar a Catalunya, L’Imeneo, fou escrita, precisament, per a celebrar-se als volts del casament entre els monarques. El text del llibret, a pesar de ser esmentat a diversos estudis sobre cultura i literatura durant la guerra de Successió, no havia sigut mai objecte d’una edició filològica ni d’una anàlisi circumstanciada. En el present treball ens acostarem al context de producció i recepció original del text, així com al contingut literari i propagandístic del text, abans d’oferir-ne l’edició.
