    The last few years coincide with renewed interest in what have come to be called distinctive market signs. The aim of this paper is to approach the subject by examining the trajectory experienced by the PDO of olive oil in Andalusia, based on in-depth interviews with social actors of this autonomous Spanish community. Some of these are optimistic about the economic value assumed by the product, while others regret the trivialization of the distinction. However, they agree on the understanding that the creation of these devices implies the emergence of an important institutional space for thinking about the development of territories and fostering cooperation and social cohesion. In this article, the focus is not only on exposing the arguments and circumstances that justify the emergence of distinctive market signals, but also on the desire to discuss the extent to which these actions favor the emergence of social innovation processes in rural areas.

    Os últimos anos coincidem com um renovado interesse sobre o que se veio a chamar signos distintivos de mercado. O objetivo do artigo é abordar o assunto a partir do exame da trajetória experimentada pelas DOP de azeite de oliva na Andaluzia, tendo por base entrevistas em profundidade realizadas com atores sociais desta comunidade autônoma espanhola. Alguns destes mostram otimismo diante do valor econômico assumido pelo produto, enquanto outros lamentam a banalização da distinção. Todavia, convergem no entendimento de que a criação destes dispositivos supõe a emergência de espaço institucional importante para pensar o desenvolvimento dos territórios e fomentar a cooperação e a coesão social. Nesse artigo a atenção está posta não somente em expor os argumentos e circunstâncias que justificam a aparição de sinais distintivos de mercado, mas igualmente no afã de discutir em que medida estas ações favorecem a emergência de processos de inovação social no âmbito dos territórios rurais.
