Los enfrentamientos bélicos siempre han puesto en el centro del sufrimiento a esa parte tan vulnerable de la sociedad que es la infancia. Tras la Primera Guerra Mundial los países comienzan a realizar acciones para la protección de este segmento tan sensible de la población. En este contexto, el Estado español responderá a ese llamamiento de tutela y solidaridad incluyendo en la Constitución Republicana de 1931 la obligación a los progenitores de cumplir con las responsabilidades de cuidado y tutela de los hijos, e implicando también al gobierno que tendrá que velar para que todo ello se lleve a cabo. Estas acciones tendrán su proyección durante la Guerra Civil española cuando se utilice el modelo de Colonias para auxiliar a este colectivo, atendiendo así la alimentación, educación e instrucción de los niños y niñas.
Military conflicts have always put the most vulnerable part of society, children, at the centre of suffering. After the First World War, countries began to take action to protect this sensitive segment of the population. In this context, the Spanish State responded to this call for protection and solidarity by including in the Republican Constitution of 1931 the obligation for parents to fulfil their responsibilities of caring for and protecting their children, and also involving the government, which will have to ensure that all this is carried out. These actions will have their projection during the Spanish Civil War when the model of Colonies is used to help this group, thus attending to the feeding, education and instruction of the boys and girls.
