Political gender violence in Brazil is a serious problem that has had an impact on the representation of women in Brazilian politics. This violence is based on sexist values and targets women, LGBTQIA+ activists, political leaders and candidates for elected office. In this article we present the results of a survey conducted with two Brazilian female federal deputies, one from the right and one from the left. By analyzing the narratives of the female MPs, we were able to understand: the meanings they attribute to gender-based political violence, the violence they have experienced and the impacts of these experiences on their political careers. The research allowed us to conclude that gender-based political violence is very present in everyday politics in Brazil and that it is essential to adopt effective measures to confront this type of violence so that women can fully exercise their political rights.
A violência política de gênero no Brasil é um sério problema que tem impactado a representatividade das mulheres na política brasileira. Trata-se de violências baseadas em valores sexistas que tem como alvo mulheres, pessoas LGBTQIA+, ativistas, lideranças políticas e candidatas a cargos eletivos. Nesse artigo apresentamos os resultados de uma pesquisa realizada com duas deputadas federais brasileiras, uma de direita e uma de esquerda. A análise das narrativas das deputadas nos possibilitou compreender os sentidos que atribuem à violência política de gênero, as violências experienciada por elas e os impactos dessas vivências em suas carreiras políticas. A pesquisa nos permitiu concluir que a violência política de gênero está muito presente no cotidiano da política no Brasil e que é fundamental adotar as medidas efetivas para o enfrentamento dessa modalidade de violência para que as mulheres possam exercer plenamente seus direitos políticos.
