En el marco del turismo sostenible, se abre con fuerza un nuevo producto: el cicloturismo, que aprovecha, entre otras, las vías verdes, antiguas infraestructuras ferroviarias ahora acondicionadas para el ocio activo. En pocos años se ha desarrollado una amplia red de vías verdes que recorren regiones y países.
En España destaca el Programa Vías Verdes, que ha sido una oportunidad para proteger un patrimonio ferroviario en desuso y que, a la vez, permite a turistas y a otros usuarios conocer y gozar un patrimonio cultural y natural que especialmente transita por espacios rurales. El Programa se ha convertido también en nuevas oportunidades económicas para esos territorios.
Con esta aportación se analiza, se diagnostica y se hacen algunas propuestas sobre una de estas vías, la denominada Vía Verde del Aceite, que recorre las provincias andaluzas de Córdoba y Jaén.
Within the framework of sustainable tourism, a new product is hitting the market with a bang: cycle tourism, which makes use of greenways – former railway infrastructures now fitted out for active leisure – among other tracks. In just a few years, a wide network of greenways crossing regions and countries has been developed.
Especially noteworthy in Spain is the Greenways Programme, which has provided an opportunity to protect a disused railway heritage. In turn, it gives tourists and other users the opportunity to get to know and enjoy a cultural and natural heritage that passes through rural areas. Furthermore, it provides new economic opportunities for those areas.
This contribution analyses, diagnoses and makes some suggestions regarding one of the greenways, known as the Vía Verde del Aceite, which runs through the Andalusian provinces of Córdoba and Jaén.
