Este artículo analiza la plataforma digital Airbnb para determinar si representa una alternativa colaborativa de hospedaje en Avándaro (Valle de Bravo, México), un fraccionamiento que ha crecido significativamente los últimos 10 años por el asentamiento del turismo residencial. Esta modalidad ha conquistado la mayor parte del territorio céntrico y está determinando cambios sociales, económicos y territoriales notorios. Se aplicaron entrevistas semiestructuradas a residentes, comerciantes y agentes inmobiliarios, también se realizó observación no participante en campo. El método de investigación utilizado es el denominado narrativas, que ayudó a obtener datos cualitativos que aportaron un amplio marco contextual de la problemática. La revisión de la plataforma permitió el análisis de la inserción de este tipo de hospedajes en dicho escenario, de la que resultó que Airbnb se integra como un elemento que apoya al principal proceso de gentrificación turística y que, lejos de representar una alternativa colaborativa de hospedaje, intensifica las desigualdades sociales y turísticas.
This article analyzes the digital platform Airbnb to determine if it represents a collaborative lodging alternative in Avándaro, Valle de Bravo, a town that has grown significantly in the last 10 years due to the settlement of residential tourism, which has conquered most of the central territory and is determining notable social, economic, and territorial changes. Semi-structured interviews were applied to residents, merchants and real estate agents, and non-participant observation was conducted in the field. The research method employed was narratives, which helped to obtain qualitative data that provided a broad contextual framework of the problem. The review of the platform allowed the analysis of the insertion of this type of lodgings in this scenario, resulting in Airbnb being integrated as an element that supports the main process of tourism gentrification, which far from representing a collaborative alternative of lodging, intensifies social and tourist inequalities.
